I used the information in my case study in paper two by relating it to the media aspect of film. I also included fact based evidence that was used and presented in the case study project on Venom. There really wasn’t any information that was left out, but we didn’t put enough on the way the movie, Venom was marketed through other media conglomerates. We found good information but our problem was finding the was it was being sold throughout other media.

What I will gain from the room video that will help me and my group make the final product better and what we will apply is signifiers. I realized we can’t just put props wherever, they have to mean something and they have to have a purpose in the film. It’s important that it means something because you can tell a lot about a person due to the props and signifiers in the film.

What I learned from the case study is that there are a lot of Cross Media Convergences. This all comes down to the money and how much the product will bring you due to marketing and synergies. The CMC that were used were music, They had Eminem make a soundtrack for the song and it was literally called “Venom.” One Synergy in the movie was the scene when they were fighting and there was a playstation in the back which is purposely placed due to product placement.

A way to catch audience’s attention worldwide was to change the the way the movie venom was marketed. For example, worldwide it was marketed as a romantic comedy and venom was seen as a sexy superhero while here in America he is seen as a violent villain and an arch enemy of spider-man.

We finished the first step into making our movie a reality and that id our script. Our next phase now is our prop and equipment list. We don’t know yet what our props are going to be but we do know our equipment list. We are using a tripod, Iphone 10 camera and lens, and a professional camera and setup since my stepmom is a professional photographer. This will help us make it more professional and hopefully we can put in time and effort to make it look like a well done movie trailer. We have our equipment set our only problem is figuring out the props that we are going to use. we realize it cant be anything it has to be the signifier like in the movie clip from the Titanic when Rose goes down to third class and there is a rat that signifies that it isn’t a luxurious area and that the people are poor. We hope to figure out our prop list soon to start filming because it will give us time to edit it and perfect the weaknesses.

Another problem we had when writing the script was where to even start. At first we had the intention of  doing horror and suspense but that changed when we decided to change it to a murder mystery. The problem we had was how to start it and how to write the script because nobody in our group knew since our previous group member was the the one that wrote them and left. It was a learning curve for us but we are starting to get how it is supposed to work in terms of format, grammar, and what it needs for the story to flow and make it worth writing about and interesting.

script problems 1/14/19

We finished our script but came across numerous problems. It is good in terms of how it is planned out but we failed in in the format and how it was supposed to look. Another problem we came across was we were being to repetitive in sentences and not letting it flow. We also grammatically didn’t look it over and try to fix it but we knew what it was going to be about. We need to fix all these problems and more than anything get the format right because it is the most important thing when writing a script. Another problem was it being to short. We didn’t intend for it to be short it was that the story ended there. We came up with some ideas to make it longer to add more drama and suspense to the script and make the story longer.

Script 12/21/18

We finished our script with a bit of confusion. We didn’t know how to make it and really made it difficult for us to think about what the characters were going to say. The reason it made it difficult was because we didn’t want to give the characters to much dialogue where it wasn’t necessary since it was a murder mystery.  We also had a problem with the format and how to setup a script. In the end we figured it out but it was our biggest problem in the beginning. We also gave the name of our movie The Secrets In Their Eyes because we think it fits perfectly the theme of a murder mystery since they are the only ones that know what happened and they only know the secrets to the mystery.

Change of plans 12/21/18

We have decided to change the genre of our movie from suspense horror to a murder mystery. We made this big change because we think it will fit better for our timing and we can manipulate it the way we want to. We also decided to change it because we got inspired when we saw the opening scene of The Godfather and we thought it would fit well in a courtroom with a witness being asked questions and we zoom out to the lawyer with an over the shoulder shot. It would fit perfectly with a suspenseful music in the background too making it non diegetic to create tension and excitement in the openeing scene which would make people want to watch more.

Finding Concepts 12/06/18

Jose Vicente P3 12/06/18

My group and I were figuring out types of genres to make our trailer about. We thought about drama, comedy, suspense, horror, and action. We didn’t choose drama because we couldn’t really figure out ways to show dramatic scenes in two minutes without giving it all away. We also crossed out comedy because we couldn’t figure out ways to make it comical with the dialogue and show connection with diegetic and non-diegetic  sound to connect with the comical aspect of it. Another concept we crossed out suspense because of the form and style your supposed to follow and felt it was too restricting and you couldn’t be free in expressing it in a different. We crossed out action because we thought you would have needed a lot of props and editing to make it worth watching. An example would be Mission Impossible because the amount of props they use and the editing is what makes it worth watching. Another reason why we crossed it out was because of the representation of the fantasy of what we think action is ans what makes us tune in and want to watch more of the action shown. Finally we chose horror mixed with the concept of suspense because of how we can easily manipulate it’s form and style. Examples would be quick cut-scenes, lighting, camera angles, dialogue, manipulate symbols, and what the overall convention of what makes horror with the unknown of suspense. Another reason being who doesn’t like horror movies and getting scared every once in a while?
